An example of localisation is the translation of a software application. Localisation is a linguistic service whose aim is to adapt a product developed in a foreign language, so that it cannot be distinguished from a product developed locally.
Besides translation, which is the essential part of this process, localisation covers other activities such as creation of terminology databases, translation of software-related documentation, execution of tests or preparation of texts for printing (Desktop Publishing), which may alter software data and functions so that the product complies with the same objectives as the original.
However, the difference between translation and localisation is not only the purpose of the service. It also entails procedures. Translation is a simpler service. The client delivers the original text and receives it back translated into the target language. Localisation is a more complex service, which requires procedures based on a project and the use of the appropriate tools. It often takes place at the same time as product development by the client, which normally results in frequent modifications of the localised text during the course of the project.
We translate documents in the following formats: DOC, RTF, PPT, XLS, HTM, HTML, JSP, ASP, ASPX, ASCX, INC, PHP, SGML, XML, XSL, DITA, SVG, RESX, MIF, INX, IASCII, TXT, QSC, ISC, TTX and others.
It depends on several factors, such as language combination, subject matter and complexity, word count and delivery format.
The price of the translation is generally based on the total number of words in the document.
Send us the documents you need to translate to find out the exact cost of a translation. This way we can give you a free estimate in less than 24 hours.
The main reason for the difference in prices between agencies is due to the services supplied. Some agencies operate as simple intermediaries, limiting themselves to sending and receiving work, often from unqualified translators. TETRAEPIK works with properly qualified translators with proven experience and all translations are carefully revised. The translation quality control process is applied to all projects, regardless of the end use of the translated product.
Final translated documents always meet the client’s quality and format expectations and may be delivered by e-mail, fax, post (registered, urgent or express) or FTP. The fact that we deliver the translation in the same format as the original does not imply any additional costs, unless documents require formatting/paging in a specific program such as Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat, InDesign, etc.
Payment may be made in cash (at our offices), by cheque or bank transfer.
Payment conditions may vary according to the project and the client will be informed when given the estimate.
In Portugal, translations are certified at a Notary Public or Attorney’s Office or at Consulates and the original documents are always required. The price of the certification is the exact amount presented by the aforementioned entities, only a small travel fee is added to this amount.
We always work with qualified translators with proven experience who only translate into their native languages. All translations are carefully revised by senior translators. When necessary, technical revision is also carried out by specialists (engineers, attorneys, physicians, etc.). This whole process is based on a rigorous translation quality control system, as required by the European Quality Standard for Translation Services (EN-15038:2006).
TETRAEPIK services are directed towards the specific needs of each client and all projects are managed personally. There is strict collaboration between the project manager and the client during and upon project completion, with a view to ensuring rigour in terminology and consistency in all translations.
